Common Problems and Solutions

Spray Head Issues

One common issue with the American Standard Fairbury faucet is related to the spray head. Sometimes, the spray head might not switch easily between spray and stream modes, or water may continue to drip after the faucet is turned off.

To fix this issue, start by checking the aerator and screen inside the spray head. Remove the aerator, clean it, and inspect the screen for any debris. After cleaning, reassemble the spray head, ensuring that all components are properly in place.

Hose and Spout Problems

Another common problem area is the hose and spout. The hose may become kinked, causing reduced water flow or difficulty in pulling out the spray head. To resolve this, examine the hose for any kinks and straighten them out.

Ensure that there is adequate space under the sink for the hose to move freely.

If the spout is leaking, it might be due to a worn-out O-ring or cartridge. In this case, you should replace the damaged components.

To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the water supply.
  2. Remove the handle by unscrewing the set screw, and take off the cover plate.
  3. Remove the cartridge using a cartridge removal tool or pliers.
  4. Replace the O-ring or insert a new cartridge, making sure it is properly aligned.
  5. Reassemble the faucet in reverse order.

To maintain optimal performance of your American Standard Fairbury faucet, clean the aerator and screen regularly and periodically inspect the hose and spout for signs of wear or damage.

By being proactive, you can ensure that your faucet remains reliable and extends its lifespan.

Easy Installation Steps

The American Standard Fairbury faucet is designed for easy installation.

Follow these simple steps to get you started:

  1. Turn off the water supply: Before you start, make sure to shut off the water supply lines to your kitchen sink.
  2. Prepare the countertop: Ensure the countertop is clean and free from debris. Ensure you have the appropriate hole size in the countertop for the Fairbury faucet.
  3. Insert the faucet: Insert the faucet into the hole, paying attention to the alignment of the base and any gaskets included.
  4. Attach supply lines: Connect the supply lines from the faucet to the corresponding hot and cold water lines. Refer to the included installation manual for specific instructions.
  5. Secure the faucet: Tighten the mounting hardware underneath the countertop to firmly hold the faucet in place.
  6. Check for leaks: Turn the water supply back on and check for any leaks. If any are present, make adjustments as needed.

Make sure to refer to the detailed installation manual for a clear and comprehensive guide.

Dealing with Sediment Buildup

Due to continuous use and water quality in your well, sediment can accumulate in the Fairbury faucet over time, potentially causing diminished water flow or clogging.

Here are some steps to deal with sediment buildup:

  1. Detach the aerator: Unscrew the aerator at the end of the faucet spout and remove any debris present. You can use a toothbrush or small brush to clean it thoroughly.
  2. Clean the filter screen: There should be a filter screen located within the aerator housing. Remove it gently, taking care not to damage it, and rinse it under running water to remove sediment.
  3. Flush the faucet: With the aerator detached, turn on the hot and cold water to flush out any remaining sediment from the faucet and supply lines.
  4. Reassemble the aerator: Once everything is clean, reassemble the filter screen and the aerator, firmly screwing it back onto the faucet spout.

  1. I had a professional install my Fairbury 2S Single-Handle Pull-down Sprayer about 8 months ago. Now, it’s leaking from the hose/spayer where they connect. The paperwork show nothing on how to tighten/correct or dick. Can it be tightened by homeowner (me)? If so, how? Me and plumbing issues do not get along. But, is there an easy at-home fix?
